Emerald Isle - Ireland Series: Carlingford, Ireland

On the east coast of Ireland between Dublin & Belfast is an undiscovered coastal town of Carlingford.  It reminded us of what Sausalito, California was probably like in the 1950's.  Nestled in a coastal inlet and surrounded by hills, this coastal town was a perfect stop to get out of the car and do some sightseeing.  We felt like we had the town to ourselves.

There is a Four Seasons Hotel with a golf course, but I would suggest looking at one of the many B&B's.

View from the ocean looking back at the town.

Main town center - narrow streets

There are several town maps making sure that you can't get lost.  Though the locals are EXTREMELY friendly and will offer assistance if you look like you're lost.

I would recommend spending the day in Carlingford and possibly the night if you can fit it into your itinerary.  After the hustle and bustle of Dublin, Carlingford is just the right of peaceful serenity before you start your next leg of the journey.

This town had a much different feel than any other coastal town on our route.

Next stop - Belfast.

Happy Traveling!
